God Is in Control

DAY 1 OF 30

Day 1: The God Who Is in Control

The universe did not come into being by accident, and neither did your story.

“This is what the Lord says—He who created the heavens, He is God; He who fashioned and made the earth, He founded it; He did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited—He says: ‘I am the Lord, and there is no other.’” —Isaiah 45:18 (NIV)

When life feels out of control, our instinct is often to panic or try to fix everything ourselves. Questions rise: Why is this happening? Is there any plan in this chaos?

Pastor Tim Dilena once said, “When you don’t understand what’s happening, go back to the beginning.” And where does the Bible begin?
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” —Genesis 1:1 (NIV)

Before there was anything, God already was sovereign, powerful, and intentional. The earth began as a formless void, yet the Spirit of God hovered over it in complete control, ready to bring light into darkness. With flawless precision, He set the planets in place, shaped the land, filled the seas, and breathed life into creation.

Isaiah 45:18 reminds us that God formed the earth to be inhabited. Psalm 115:16 adds that the highest heavens belong to the Lord, but the earth He has entrusted to mankind. From the very beginning, His purpose was clear: a world where people could live, flourish, and walk with Him.

Even science points to this truth. More than 60 exact conditions are required for life, everything from the earth’s distance from the sun to the oxygen-nitrogen ratio to the size of the moon. If just one of these factors were off, life would be impossible. This is no random chance. It is the handiwork of a God who holds all things together.

Isaiah 45 was written during a time when Jerusalem lay in ruins, the temple destroyed, and God’s people exiled in Babylon. They felt powerless, abandoned, and unsure of His plan. Yet three times in that chapter, God pointed to His role as Creator of heaven and earth as proof that He could rescue and restore them. If He could create a universe out of nothing, He could rebuild their nation from the rubble.

The same truth holds today. The God who formed the stars and fine-tuned the universe has not lost control of your life. He who aligned galaxies can align your steps. And because His wisdom and power are perfect, you can trust Him with all your heart.

So the question is: In whom will you place your trust? Who else compares to Him? Absolutely no one.

My Prayer:

Lord, thank You for creating this world for me to live in and for holding all things together. When life feels unstable, help me rest in Your control, trusting that You can bring order to my chaos. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflect:

  1. What area of your life do you need to place back under God’s control?
  2. How does the fine-tuning of creation strengthen your trust in Him?
