Walking on the Word

DAY 2 OF 7

Day 2: He’s God… Not Man

“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” - Numbers 23:19 KJV

In the days that we are living in, the word of others doesn’t seem to carry much weight anymore. Often people make promises and fail to follow through with the things that they have promised us. So much so that many people have conditioned themselves to not even get their hopes up when someone makes a promise to them.

This is unfortunate because we should be able to trust the promises made to us. But, although man/humankind may fail to keep their word, our God will never fail to keep His word. Our focus verse for the day reminds us that God isn’t like mankind. It reminds us that while people may lie, God never will. It’s not in His nature to lie. Not only that, but the Bible also tells us that He is not even capable of lying. Our God cannot lie!

Now, I want you to pause and wrap your head around that for a minute. God does not lie. He has not, nor will He ever say anything that is not true. His track record is proven. He has not, nor will He ever say anything that won’t come to pass. Because of this, we have an assurance that when the Lord makes us a promise that it’s a sure thing. It must come to pass.

Now that’s good news because it means that every promise He’s ever made is true! Every. Single. Word. His written Word is true, just as the word that He spoke to your heart is true as well. Everything that the Lord has declared over your life has to come to pass, just as He said. Knowing this is key because between every promise and its manifestation, there is a middle that often looks nothing like what was promised.

So, knowing that what God has said has to come to pass gives us confidence to endure the middle. Knowing God doesn’t lie provides comfort during the season in which what we see looks completely opposite of what was promised. But knowing that God’s Word must manifest gives us the assurance to hold on, no matter what it looks like or how long it takes before we see the manifestation. So, take heart and know that it’s not a matter of whether it will happen; it’s simply a matter of when. And we know that God’s timing is perfect, so when it does come to pass, it will be at the perfect time!

Reflection: How does knowing that God’s Word is a sure thing change how you feel about that which God has spoken to you? Knowing that God’s Word must come to pass, what Scriptures can you hold on to encourage you on your faith walk? Take some time and write those Scriptures down and post them in a place that you can see daily as a reminder to yourself of what God has said.

Prayer Prompt: Thank you, Lord, that every word that You have spoken is true! Thank you, that what You have declared about me is true, and thank you that what You have said about this assignment is true. Father, I ask today that You would help me to stand on what You have said with confidence and boldness, knowing that Your word is true!
