Romans: A 30 Day Visit

DAY 16 OF 30

We've read through chapters 9 and 10 in two large chunks to get a broad overview. Paul laid his case from the beginning of the book that salvation was coming through faith, and as far back as Abraham, still coming through faith.

Paul continues in his discussion about the plight of the Jews. He explains in verse 3 that "Since they did not know the righteousness of God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness." If righteousness was coming through faith in Jesus, and the Jews were working to be righteous on their own terms, then it seems plain that a division had to come.

Are there ways that you work to pursue your own version of righteousness?

Paul sums up the matter in verses 8-9 by saying, "that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

And again in verse 13, he reiterates, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." There is one Lord: Jesus Christ. There is only one path to salvation: faith in Jesus Christ.

What has it looked like for you to place your faith in the works of Jesus for your salvation?

How can you have 'beautiful feet' and bring the good news of Jesus to those in your sphere?

About this Plan

Romans: A 30 Day Visit

Paul's letter to the church in Rome is packed! He is helping this new church establish a vision for what it looks like to be citizens of God's Kingdom. There is doctrine to learn and live by, as well as wisdom for living life in ways that accurately reflect the King. As we take the trip together over the next month, we too see that what we believe, always influences how we live.
