FEAST: 30 Days of Real Truth for Real Life

DAY 16 OF 30

Day 15: Leah—Overlooked

Snack

  1. God sees those the world overlooks.
  2. Our worth is not measured by others’ affection but by God’s love.
  3. What feels hidden to man is deeply valued by Him.

Appetiser

Have you ever felt unseen, as though others passed you by without noticing your worth?

Main Course

Leah’s story is one of pain wrapped in God’s faithfulness. She was given to Jacob in marriage through Laban’s deception, while Jacob’s love was always for Rachel (Genesis 29:15–25). Leah lived with the sting of being the unwanted wife, overshadowed by her sister’s beauty and her husband’s affection.

Yet what man overlooked, God saw. Scripture tells us,“When the Lord saw that Leah was not loved, he enabled her to conceive” (Genesis 29:31 NIV). Each child she bore carried a reflection of her heart’s cry for love and validation.

Leah’s first three sons revealed her longing: Reuben,“It is because the Lord has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now”; Simeon,“Because the Lord heard that I am not loved, he gave me this one too”; and Levi,“Now at last my husband will become attached to me” (Genesis 29:32–34 NIV). But Jacob’s affection did not change.

It was with her fourth son, Judah, that Leah shifted her focus:“This time I will praise the Lord” (Genesis 29:35 NIV). Leah moved from striving for human approval to resting in God’s love. Her praise became the doorway to legacy, for from the line of Judah would come Jesus, the Messiah.

Later, Leah was buried in the family tomb with Jacob, alongside Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebekah, and ultimately Rachel too (Genesis 49:31). The one overlooked in life was honoured in death as part of God’s covenant story.

Leah’s journey reminds us that God’s gaze falls on those who feel unseen. When others fail to recognise our worth, He never misses us. If you’ve ever felt hidden or disregarded, know this: your story is not overlooked by God. Like Leah, you are seen, heard, and loved.

From places of pain, He can bring forth praise and lasting legacy.
