Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year TwoSample

Be sure your sin will find you out (Numbers 32:23 NKJV).
What should you look for in a spouse while guarding your heart from deceit?
Jacob had been a deceitful man, yet he is going to be given a very special wife. Not only was she beautiful, but she would also be hard-working. Single Christians should not just note the attractiveness in a potential spouse, but also one who works hard for the Lord.
With the wife came the father-in-law that God would use to humble Jacob from all his duplicity (Genesis 25 and 27). We are told in Numbers 32:23 (NKJV) “be sure your sin will find you out.” Laban, on multiple occasions, does a lot of deceiving himself to Jacob, and God used that to humble this proud patriarch. Thankfully, Jacob got his lesson, and we need to do the same by not being deceitful.
Employment Point: Seek a spouse who labors for Jesus and guard your heart from deceit.

About this Plan

Devotions on F.I.R.E. journeys through the Bible in one year. Each day includes a devotion based on Dr. Burge’s F.I.R.E. method of Bible Study. F.I.R.E. stands for Familiarity, Interpretation, Relationship, and Employment. The F.I.R.E. method and the daily devotions help readers remember and apply what they read as they fuel the fire in their hearts for God’s Word—adapted from the book Devotions on F.I.R.E. Year Two, by Dr. Ken J. Burge, Sr.
