Are you sacrificing the temporal for the eternal?
The Rich Young Ruler comes to Jesus, and Jesus exposes his heart. Sadly, the man's possessions meant more than his relationship with God (Matthew 19:16–26). Peter, seeing the rich man’s departure, follows up and asks Jesus, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?” (Matthew 19:27 NKJV). Jesus then takes the time to explain to Peter about both the temporal, but more importantly, the eternal rewards that will come for that kind of sacrifice. Jesus points out that our future blessing will far outweigh any momentary satisfaction. “And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first” (Matthew 19:29–30 NKJV).
