God, Where Are You?

DAY 5 OF 6

Day 5: Finding God’s Foresight

Sometimes I look back at things that happened in my life and say, “If I had known this was coming, I would’ve done things differently.”
But what do you do when the thing you never expected… shows up anyway?
What do you do when it feels like your life just got flipped upside down—and God didn’t stop it?

Today’s Scripture introduces us to Joseph, a young man with big dreams. Dreams from God.
But immediately after he shares those dreams, his life takes a turn no one saw coming.
His brothers plot to kill him. They throw him in a pit. They sell him into slavery.

And just like that, the dream seems over before it even begins.

If I were Joseph, I would’ve cried out: “God, where are You?”
“Didn’t You give me this dream? Why didn’t You stop this?”

But what Joseph couldn’t see—what we often can’t see in the moment—is that God’s foresight was already at work.
God saw what Joseph couldn’t. He knew the pit would lead to Egypt. He knew the betrayal would lead to favor. He knew the pain would one day position Joseph to save an entire nation from famine—including the same brothers who betrayed him.

That’s what foresight is. God’s ability to see what we can’t see.
To know how every step—good or bad—will lead to His purpose.

So when we find ourselves in pits or prisons, when life feels like it’s falling apart and we’re wondering, “God, where are You?”—we have to remember: He saw this coming. And if He saw it coming, He’s already made a way through it.

We may not like the path. We may not understand the process. But if we trust His foresight, we can trust that He’s not only present—He’s ahead of us.

Prayer:
Father God, help us to trust Your foresight, even when we don’t understand what’s happening around us. Remind us that You see what we can’t see. Help us hold on in the middle of the pain, knowing that You’re already working it out for Your purpose. Even in the pit, help us believe that You have a plan.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Can you think of a time when something painful led to something purposeful?
  2. How do you usually respond when things don’t go the way you expect?
  3. Have you been angry at God for not preventing something—when He might be using it for something greater?
  4. What would it look like for you to trust God’s foresight right now?
  5. What part of Joseph’s story feels most personal to you?
