A 5-Day Journey Exploring Moses’ Burning QuestionsSample

Not My Job
Over the past four days, we’ve walked with Moses through his burning-bush moment, his doubts, insecurities, and fears. Today we reach his final plea: “Lord, please! Send anyone else.”
God became angry with Moses, not because Moses asked questions but because he allowed doubt to override truth. Yet, even in frustration, God responded with compassion. He sent Aaron to speak on Moses’ behalf, saying, “Aaron will be your spokesman to the people. He will be your mouthpiece, and you will stand in the place of God for him, telling him what to say” (Exodus 4:16).
Here’s the thing: God didn’t need Aaron to fulfill the mission. He had already equipped Moses with everything Moses needed. But God sent Aaron anyway, not for the call but for Moses’ confidence. Many of us wrestle with a lack of confidence. Instead of trusting that God is enough, we begin questioning if we are enough.
Our lack of confidence can become a barrier to our obedience, leading us to look for our “Aarons” instead of depending on our God. Fortunately for us, God is incredibly gracious and
does extraordinary things with ordinary people. In Exodus 3 and 4, Moses was insecure. But by Numbers 12, he was humble and gained godly confidence. Though Moses did have many struggles, one of his greatest strengths was his willingness to openly express himself to God.
Even in moments when we doubt, question, and kind of freak out, God knows exactly how to respond. He will correct our skewed concept of self, challenge our dependence on others, remind us where our authority comes from, and heal our unbelief.
Let’s take off our sandals of self-doubt and walk forward in confidence, knowing that God goes with us every step of the way.
Reflect
- In what areas of your life have you been asking God to “send someone else”?
- How can you shift your focus from fear to faith?
Prayer
Lord, thank you that my confidence is in you. Help me to cast all my cares upon you and not allow doubts.
