Looking for the One

DAY 1 OF 5

Becoming Like the One

At some point, you’ve been encouraged to share the gospel. After listening to a missionary, you may have run out the door with a handful of gospel tracts or driven home feeling uncomfortable. You may have felt guilty or pressured. And you may be on track to join the majority of Christians who rarely share the gospel in their lifetime. What if there was a simple plan? Go look for “the one.”

It might be a financial need, a cup of cold water, or the gospel. It can be easy. Surrender your schedule to Jesus. Believe God is big enough to take care of his business, and he’ll bring you one person each day. Just one a day.

I know what you are thinking. Your schedule is crazy, or you’ve tried to witness, and it didn’t go well. Someone asked a question, and you didn’t know what to say. Trust me, if you go looking for the one, time will stand still, and the Holy Spirit will give you the answers you need. The lost and hurting are more important than schedules, and God’s bottom line matters the most.

Your dependence is what God desires. Because you don’t have all the answers, you instinctively see these encounters as relationships instead of talking points. You rely on the Holy Spirit to speak to you in the moment. Instead of theological or political debates, you just want to talk about Jesus.

Abide with Jesus and see his heart for the lost people in your life: the broken, the forgotten, the abused, and the outcasts. Engage your family members who need to experience God. Watch as strangers meet him through you.

There are times it takes years to develop a relationship, but most of the time, looking for the one happens in daily moments of obedience. As you read the short stories over the next five days, and take the practical steps mentioned, you’ll start to think differently. It might only be a trip to the grocery store, but you walk into that store as a representative of Jesus. “We are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us” (2 Corinthians 5:20 NLT).

God, I know looking for the one will be life changing. Let mine be the first life changed. As I look for the one, I want to become like the One. I want to become more like Jesus.

About this Plan

Looking for the One

What if evangelism wasn’t something you had to do for Jesus, but something he wanted to do through ordinary you. David McIver believes that everyday encounters can become extraordinary as people meet Jesus—through you. Watch the gospel come alive as you put these five plans into action. The first life to be changed will be yours. Because when you look for the one, you become like the One.
