Hearing GodSample

God Speaks through the Holy Spirit
In John 16:7, when Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit, He says “Him” not “it.” This is an important detail.
The Holy Spirit is a person. He is fully God.
He is more than a feeling, an expressive type of worship service, or an excuse to act crazy in church. Some people feel cautious about Him because they’ve seen things they didn’t understand. Other people are reluctant to find out more because they come from a tradition or background where people were concerned about this conversation.
If you can relate to Jesus through God’s Word, you can learn to relate to the Holy Spirit. Jesus is excited for you to receive this advantage—to experience the benefits of the promise of the supernatural help that comes from a relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Learning to hear from God always comes back to, “Did you do what He already told you?” We want to hear something new. Jesus always comes back to, “If you love Me, obey what I told you.”
We also see that the Spirit will guide us into all truth. Not some things. Not only spiritual things. All the things. Whatever we’re willing to ask. Whatever we have ears to hear.
Remember, the goal of hearing from God is less about getting the information we’re looking for and much more about understanding who God is, how He loves us, and how His goodness and love change every relationship we have.
The question is not whether the Holy Spirit speaks to us on a daily basis. Jesus told us He’d always be with us, He’d never leave us, and He would guide us into all truth.
When was the last time you asked the Holy Spirit to speak to you? You may not have even realized this was something you could do.
Jesus makes it so simple. When we ask, when we listen, and when we acknowledge His constant presence in our lives, He leads us into all truth and reminds us of everything Jesus said. You might be wondering, How will I know it’s Him? Remember, He doesn’t speak on His own out of nowhere. He passes on what the Father and the Son have said. When you have a challenge with your spouse, one of your children, a friend, or a co-worker, your thoughts and attitude will remind you of all the ways they’ve mistreated you.
The Holy Spirit won’t start with them. He will lovingly start with you.
• How could you be more loving?
• How could you offer grace and kindness?
• Instead of being right or making your point, what does Jesus want you to say?
What are the areas in your life the Holy Spirit is highlighting? What is He asking you to do?
