Baptism: Buried and Raised With Christ

Key Verse:

Romans 6:4—“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that… we too might walk in newness of life.”

Baptism is more than a symbolic moment or a religious tradition—it is a public declaration that the old life has been buried and the new life has begun. When Jesus was baptized, the heavens opened, the Spirit descended, and the Father declared,“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:16–17). Baptism affirms identity—it doesn’t create identity.

Romans 6 reveals that baptism is a spiritual participation in Jesus’ death and resurrection. You go under the water to show the old “you” died. You rise from the water to declare the new “you” now lives empowered by His Spirit. Baptism is God’s invitation to step into a new land—a grace-soaked country where sin is no longer your master (Romans 6:1–5; MSG).

Acts 2:38 teaches that repentance and baptism open the way for the Holy Spirit to work deeply in your life. Baptism is not a finish line, but a starting line. It is an announcement that your past is no longer your identity, and your future is now shaped by Christ in you.

When you remember your baptism, you remember that the old life is gone. You are not trying to kill your sin nature—it already died with Christ. You are not trying to earn righteousness—you were clothed with Christ (Galatians 3:27). You are raised to live, love, and walk differently.

Lord Jesus, thank You that I am buried with You and raised with You. Help me leave the old behind and walk fully in the newness of life You gave me. Remind me daily that I am clothed with Christ. Amen.
