Shepherding One AnotherSample

A Pastor Creates Space for Shared Community
Jesus was already waiting for the disciples, with enough coals to cook both the fish He had prepared and the ones they had brought. It is noteworthy that while Scripture prescribes the tithe to support the temple, sustain the Levites, and care for those in need, Deuteronomy 14 also teaches that it should be used for celebration— to share joy together before the Lord.
Creating a space where each person brings their own catch and turns it into a shared meal embodies this teaching. It serves to acknowledge God's miraculous and generous provision with gratitude. There is healing in celebrations when the presence of God becomes tangible; even without words, everyone feels it as they rejoice together in their blessings, recounting their milestones—like that night in Peter's boat when they caught 153 fish, or when Peter joyfully hauled in the net by himself. Celebrating life in community—sharing whatever is at hand—is a sign of healthy spirituality. There are times for listening from the pulpit, but those of us who shepherd one another must also celebrate and affirm life within the community.
Jesus dwells within us, and when we gather in His name, He dwells among us. Have we been intentional about creating moments to celebrate life, knowing that Jesus is in our midst?

About this Plan

Too often, the Christian community forgets what is most essential: caring for one another, as Jesus commanded. Based on the final chapter of John’s Gospel, this work draws out practical insights for shepherding others with dignity, compassion, and shared responsibility.
