Humble (S4-E8)Sample

Discerning and acknowledging prophecy
The King will enter Jerusalem riding on the colt of a donkey: humble, clothed in righteousness, and bringing victory. It is a powerful image, and one the people of Israel knew well. The words of the prophet Zechariah were familiar to them.
As Jesus approaches Jerusalem, He gives His disciples very specific instructions. Matthew is careful to record the details in his Gospel: what to do, where to go, and even what to say. Nothing is left vague.
Then the moment comes. The prophecy and the present situation suddenly meet. The disciples realize they are standing inside the story they have known for so long. They speak the words aloud, first one by one, then together. There is recognition, and there is acknowledgment. This is the king. This is the one God promised.
Years later, Peter reflects on prophecy in one of his letters. He reminds believers that prophecy is not just an ancient prediction, but the living Word of God. The prophets spoke what God revealed to them, and those same words are now preserved in Scripture. God still speaks through them today.
Peter urges believers to pay close attention to these words – reading them, remembering them, praying them, and letting them shape our lives. He compares Scripture to a lamp shining on our path. Without that light, we might stumble or fall. But God’s Word helps us stand firm.
In that light, we recognize Jesus, His voice becomes clearer, and we begin to understand what He is asking of us.
Reflection Questions
- What promises or words from Scripture stay with you?
- What role does the Bible play in your daily life?
- Where do you need God’s guidance and clarity right now? Pray and ask Jesus to show you clearly what He wants to reveal.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for Your Word. It brings life, light, and understanding. Today, I bring this situation before You: __________. Please shine Your light on it. Give me insight, Lord, so I know how to respond and what to do. Amen.
