DAY 2 OF 4

Clinging to God’s Character

When God is silent, it’s easy to doubt His heart. Yet, the unchanging nature of God—His goodness, power, and love—remain, no matter what we feel. Job declared, “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him” (Job 13:15, MEV). Let’s anchor our hearts to God’s character, exploring how faith is forged not by feelings but by knowing who He is through and through.

Job didn’t just hang onto feelings; he anchored himself to the unchanging character of God. “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him” (Job 13:15, MEV). That’s faith not based on what you see or feel but on the bedrock of who God has already proved Himself to be.

In seasons of anxiety and silence, our minds can spiral. Job confessed he felt abandoned: “Look, I go forward, but He is not there” (Job 23:8, MEV). But he returned again and again to what he knew: God is holy, faithful, his refuge, generous, and ever-present.

When you can’t find God in your circumstances, call to mind the stories of His character in your own life. Recount the moments He’s shown up—provided, healed, comforted, or just held you together. If you have no recent stories, lean into the testimony of generations: God does not change (Malachi 3:6).

Job’s suffering didn’t undermine God’s faithfulness. Instead, it revealed a faith that could endure. The silence pressed Job to recall and declare, not just what he felt, but what he believed deep down—that God is trustworthy, even in the dark.

What you know about God in the light will carry you through the dark. Trust His character—it’s been proven.

Reflection Questions:

  • What traits of God have you personally experienced (provision, mercy, comfort)?
  • How do you remind yourself of God’s character in hard seasons?
  • Is there a story from your past (or Job’s) that strengthens your faith now?
  • What can you declare about God today, regardless of what you feel?

Prayer:

Lord, You are faithful and true—unchanging when everything else shifts. Help me anchor my heart to Your character and find confidence in who You are. Even in silence, let me trust Your goodness and rest in Your unbreakable promises.
