YHWH

DAY 1 OF 3

Whenever you encounter the term LORD in the Scriptures, it is advisable to pause and investigate its significance. The word "Lord" can carry various meanings; however, when you see the word LORD in uppercase letters in the Old Testament, it specifically denotes the divine being, "Jehovah." Furthermore, it also represents YHWH (Yahweh). The pronunciation of the YHWH is akin to breathing. Inhale: YH, exhale: WH. It is considered so sacred that the people of God preferred not to pronounce it aloud; instead, they used the term "Adonai."

The term "Jehovah" or "YHWH" means “self-existent” or eternal. The LORD is recognised as the self-existent God, who is the creator of all things, and through Him all things were brought into existence. He is the very One who contains life within Himself and bestows this life upon His creation.

After “the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground…”, He “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul”.

The first man, Adam, was an empty shell, lifeless at his formation, and he needed the breath of life from YHWH to become a living soul.

Like the first man, we are privileged to have the breath of life in our bodies, which enables us to become living souls.

Without the breath of YHWH, the self-existent God, we are lifeless.

Prayer:

LORD, thank You for the breath of life. Remind us of the privilege of being a living soul because of your breath within our lungs, Amen.
