DAY 2 OF 7

The Last Supper: Humble Servant

Take a moment and imagine walking long distances in sandals along dusty, crowded roads. With animals passing by and no paved streets, your feet would quickly become dirty, sweaty, and uncomfortable.

In Bible times, washing someone’s feet was the job of the lowest servant in the house. It was not honourable. It was not glamorous. It was not celebrated.

Yet in the Gospel of John 13:1, 4–5, we see something extraordinary: Jesus, the Son of God, knelt and washed His disciples’ feet. The King became a servant. The Teacher took the lowest place.

Imagine how the disciples must have felt—confused, uncomfortable, maybe even embarrassed. Why would their Lord do such a thing?

Later, Jesus explained in the Gospel of John 13:12–15 that He was giving them an example to follow. True greatness in God’s Kingdom is not about power or position—it is about humility and love in action.

This was not the first time Jesus taught this lesson. When the disciples argued about who was the greatest, Jesus reminded them in the Gospel of Mark 10:42–45 that whoever wants to become great must become a servant. He Himself did not come to be served, but to serve—and to give His life as a ransom for many.

Jesus shows us that humility is not weakness. It is strength under control. It is choosing love over pride. It is putting others first, even when no one is watching.

Reflection Questions

  • Why do you think serving others can sometimes feel difficult or uncomfortable?
  • Is there pride in your heart that Jesus is gently asking you to surrender?
  • What is one practical way you can serve someone in your home, school, church, or community this week?

The One who deserved to be served chose to serve. This Easter season, may we follow our Humble Servant—loving not just with words, but with willing hands and humble hearts.

Prayer
Dear Lord, help me to be humble instead of proud.
I want to follow Your example by serving others and showing them Your love. Amen.
