Paul also challenges in the area of giving. He tells them that they should give to follow Jesus' example. Jesus gave up everything for us; shouldn't we be willing to give up something for Jesus? He also tells them that the more we give, the larger the result. It's a very different challenge than the Old Testament view of tithing. That was "give 10% and you are fine." Here it says give in response to what God has given you (His Son) and according to how much result you want to see. There is freedom in not having a set standard, but responsibility in having to think about just how grateful we are for God's gift of forgiveness.
