Success at Work

Joseph’s story offers a striking definition of success. Scripture tells us that the Lord was with Joseph, and he was successful (Genesis 39:2–3). Long before leadership or authority, success was already at work in Joseph because God was with him.

Biblical success is not measured only by wealth, titles, or visible progress. It begins with God’s blessing in what we do. Joseph prospered in difficult and unjust circumstances because his work was marked by God’s favour, even in unfavourable conditions. His environment did not define his success; God’s presence did.

Joseph’s success did not appear overnight. His sudden elevation came after years of unseen and unrewarded faithfulness. Long before promotion, Joseph served diligently in obscurity: in Potiphar’s house as a servant, in prison, and in seasons where he was forgotten by people but never forgotten by God. When visibility and influence finally came, they revealed what had already been formed within him over time.

If your current season feels hidden, slow, or misaligned with where you hope to be, take heart. God often uses silent seasons to prepare us for greater responsibility. What feels delayed may in fact be developing depth, wisdom, and trustworthiness that will matter later. Like Joseph, faithfulness where you are now can quietly shape the future God is preparing for you.
