When Jesus Gets Lost

DAY 3 OF 3

Don’t start running without Jesus

You probably know those moments too—when everything inside you is boiling over, you’re furious, and you feel like putting others “in their place,” especially when you see something unfair happening!

That’s likely how Peter felt when Judas, a former friend, suddenly appeared with a group of Roman soldiers to arrest Jesus.

“Then Simon Peter, who had a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, cutting off his right ear. (The servant’s name was Malchus.)” (John 18:10-11 NLT) Peter could have whispered to Jesus, “May I? Should I defend us?” Or at least given Him a questioning look that would have said it all. But no, Peter acted on his own.

When we act on our own, we usually take ourselves out of God’s plan—out of His peace and out of the possibility of a miracle.

Lately, I’ve been fascinated by the story in Luke 2, when Jesus’ parents simply forgot Him, and only realized it a day later! It says:

“After the festival was over, Joseph and Mary started their journey home. But they did not realize that Jesus was staying behind in Jerusalem. On the first day of their return journey, they did not notice Him…” (Luke 2:43-44 NLT)

Now think about it: the distance from Jerusalem to Nazareth is about 140 kilometers. On foot, that’s 5–7 days! No distractions like an iPhone, music in the ears, or anything else—and STILL, like Peter—they started walking without Him!

That gives us something to think about because we are masters at getting distracted! Oh, let’s never be so distracted that we forget to glance at Jesus and ask: “What is YOUR will in this difficult situation? What is YOUR will for my life?”

Don’t start running without Jesus. Whether you face a big or small decision, you need Him!

Because if you start running with Jesus, you will arrive with Him—and with His peace. 😉

You are a miracle!

About this Plan

When Jesus Gets Lost

Even the most faithful can feel Jesus slipping away. In this 3-day devotional, Déborah reminds us that sometimes we need to go back, retreat, or pause to find Him again. Using the story of Mary and Joseph losing Jesus, she shows how to refocus, avoid distractions, and seek God’s will in every moment—so your faith isn’t just remembered, but actively lived.
