PERFECT PEACESample

He Has Nothing in Me
The phrase is striking in its brevity and its confidence. "The prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me." He was not claiming that the enemy would not come. He was about to walk into the darkest night of His earthly life, and He knew it. What He was claiming was that when the enemy arrived, he would find no foothold, nor agreement with darkness. There was no hidden compromise. No thread of selfishness or fear that could be pulled and unravelled. Nothing.
This is a picture of perfect inner integration. The peace of Jesus was stronger than mere emotional composure. His peace was the fruit of a life entirely without division, a life in which every thought, every desire, every act of will was aligned with the Father. The enemy's power to disturb peace depends on finding something to work with, a fear to exploit, a doubt to widen, a wound to press. In Jesus, there was nothing of that kind. His inner life was wholly clean and wholly His Father's. The enemy came and found a locked door with nothing behind it that he could use.
Colossians 2:15 describes what happened as a result of the cross, "having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it." The victory was total. The One who had nothing in Him that the enemy could grip went to the cross, defeated death, and stripped the powers of darkness of their claim over every person who belongs to Him. The enemy's legal ground is gone. His authority over the believer has been publicly and permanently revoked.
The peace this gives is anchored in a finished victory. The one who would disturb your peace has already been disarmed by the One whose peace you carry. Walk in that today.
REFLECT
What area of your inner life gives the enemy a foothold? What unresolved fear, bitterness, or compromise is he working with?
How does the knowledge that Christ has triumphed over principalities and powers change the way you face spiritual opposition?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I want to be able to say what You said, "he has nothing in me." Search my heart and remove every foothold. Let my inner life be so wholly Yours that there is nothing for the enemy to grip. Amen.

About this Plan

The night Jesus spoke these words was not a calm one. He was hours from His arrest, hours from the garden, hours from the cross. The disciples were afraid, and into that trembling room, He said, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you." Not a promise that the storm would not come. The storm was already gathering. What He offered was something the storm could not touch, His own peace. This 5-day plan moves through John 14:27-31, drawing out the full meaning of that peace and how to walk in it.
