The Gospel Throughout Scripture

DAY 3 OF 8

Samson is one of the most frustrating people in the entire Bible, and maybe that is why his story cuts so close. He had every gift—supernatural strength, a divine calling spoken over him before he was born, the Spirit of God rushing upon him like wind—and he wasted nearly all of it chasing what felt good in the moment. He broke every vow, told his secret to a woman who had already proven she would sell him out, and ended up blind and chained to a grinding wheel in a Philistine prison. You read it and think, how did you get here, and then you remember the last time you knew better and did it anyway, and the judgment fades into something that feels more like recognition.

But what wrecks me is the ending. Blind, humiliated, dragged out like entertainment for his enemies, Samson prays one final prayer—“Sovereign Lord, remember me just once more”—and God answers. After every betrayal, every squandered gift, every self-inflicted wound, God still shows up when Samson calls. And in that final act, arms pushing against the pillars of a pagan temple, he accomplishes more for God’s people in his death than he ever did in his life. The gospel is already here in Judges, written in the dust and the wreckage. There is a God whose purpose for you is more stubborn than your ability to ruin it, and He has a long history of doing His greatest work through people who have run out of everything except the willingness to call His name one more time.

About this Plan

The Gospel Throughout Scripture

This is not a plan about information. This is a plan about formation. For eight days, we will walk through the arc of Scripture—from a wilderness in Genesis to an empty tomb outside Jerusalem—and discover that every page of this Book is telling one relentless story: God is coming to get His people. Not to condemn. To reclaim. These are not distant tales. They are the grammar of your own rescue. Read slowly. Let the text read you back.
