Godly Tolerance

DAY 4 OF 4

In Spoken Words...

Words are powerful yet fragile. Once spoken, they cannot be taken back. Though they may fade from the air, they often remain deeply rooted in the hearts and minds of those who hear them.

Our words have the power to build or to break, to heal or to wound. Even a child is shaped by the words spoken around them. This is why God desires that our speech consistently reflects His love, truth, and peace.

Choosing godly words means being deliberate. It requires us to pause, reflect, and consider how our words will affect others. Will they uplift or discourage? Will they bring peace or create tension?

The Bible instructs us in Colossians 4:6 that our words should be filled with grace. Words filled with grace carry wisdom, kindness, and restraint. They are guided by the Spirit of God.

Additionally, “Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones” (Proverbs 16:24, NIV). This reminds us that kind and thoughtful words can bring healing and restoration to those who hear them.

Before you speak, remember: words once released cannot be retrieved. But when guided by love and wisdom, they can leave a lasting impact that glorifies God.

Godly tolerance is expressed not only in what we do, but also in what we say. Choose words that give life.

Reflection Questions

  1. Do my words consistently reflect grace, kindness, and truth?
  2. Have I spoken words that may have hurt someone recently? How can I make it right?
  3. Am I intentional about allowing the Holy Spirit to guide my conversations?
  4. How can I use my words today to bring healing, encouragement, and peace?

LET’S PRAY!

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word and for teaching me the way of love and godly tolerance. Help me never to look down on the weak, but to support, strengthen, and uphold them in grace. Teach me to walk in unity and to live at peace with my brethren at all times.

Lord, make me mindful of others in all I do. Let my actions reflect Your character, bringing encouragement and never causing anyone to stumble. Guard my heart and my tongue, that my words may be filled with grace, bringing healing, peace, and edification to those around me.

By Your Spirit, help me to walk daily in love, humility, and wisdom, that my life may glorify You and draw others closer to Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
