We Can See God
What stirs up inside you as you read this statement? Maybe curiosity. Maybe, if you tend to lean toward skepticism, a hint of doubt.
If you’re like me, you were probably taught that there are limits to how much of God we can experience in this life: a God we can feel, but not see; approach, but not touch. The divine feels distant, intangible. But what if there is more of God to know than we’ve allowed ourselves to experience?
This question will guide our devotional today. In fact, it’s often our questions that open the door for fresh revelation through the Holy Spirit.
Colossians 1:15 says that Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. Reading this, I can’t help but wonder: if there is a perfect and visible image of an invisible God, could that same God really remain unseen?
Again, you might approach this idea with skepticism and think, “Okay, I can understand this, but to a metaphorical extent.” We know we can perceive God through spiritual senses, but for a moment, let’s approach this topic like children, stewards of wonder, heirs of heaven, and take it literally.
What if it is actually possible to see God?
What if the Scriptures aren’t ambiguous here, but clearer than we’ve assumed?
Below, you’ll find passages that not only point to this possibility but invite us to expand how we understand the visible and the invisible. They challenge us to rethink what’s possible when we speak of God. My prayer is that the Spirit awakens curiosity and awe in your heart.
