Daniel: A Guided Bible Introduction

DAY 1 OF 6

Faithfulness: Introduction to Daniel

The book of Daniel records the life and prophetic visions of the prophet Daniel during the Israelites' exile in Babylon. It tells of the faithfulness of Daniel and his friends, as well as prophecies concerning nations and the future of the world. The book covers the period from about 605 to 535 BC, during which Daniel served under several rulers. The traditional view is that Daniel himself wrote the book while living in Babylon, though many modern scholars believe it was written later, during the second century BC. Others suggest that different portions of the book may have been written at different times.

The book of Daniel was written to give hope to God's people during times of hardship and exile. Through both historical events and prophetic visions, God demonstrates His authority over kings, kingdoms, and all of history. Daniel's prophecies help readers understand the kingdom of God revealed in the New Testament. The coming Messiah is foretold in Daniel 7:13-14. Jesus later referred to Daniel's prophecies concerning future events (Matthew 24:15; Mark13:14), and Daniel's visions share themes found in the book of Revelation. Daniel also reflects on the prophecies of Jeremiah (Daniel 9:1-3).

Daniel Outline:
