The Legacy JourneySample
Personal Discipline
When I was a kid growing up in Tennessee, I loved riding bikes with my buddies. Of course, my bike didn’t have all the fancy options you see today. Back then, it had one gear, and it had one engine: my two little legs. And those legs had to work pretty hard because we don’t have a lot of flat stretches in Tennessee. You’re either going up or going down.
Often while riding, I’d look up and see the road ahead of me go straight up! And if the hill was really steep, I’d start looping from right to left to keep my momentum going. I’d fight and I’d struggle to get to the top of the hill. Many times, I felt like quitting.
But I never did.
Why? Because the ride down the hill was worth every ounce of energy it took to make it up the hill.
That’s your destination for The Legacy Journey. You want to reach the spot where you’re going downhill. You want to hit that sweet spot where your investments and savings are actually earning more each year than you make at your job.
That’s called the pinnacle point, and it’s a great place to be. But you don’t get there easily. It takes a lot of hard work over an extended period of time, and it takes a lot of discipline.
Hebrews 12:11 emphasizes that discipline is rarely fun, but it’s incredibly necessary. The pain of the moment is very real, but those who pay the price win in the end.
The Legacy Journey really isn’t the easy way. A lot of the trip is uphill. But when you get to the top, you get to coast down the other side. Plus, God smiles because you’ve been a faithful servant. He’s enjoying the ride with you.
And that’s an awesome feeling.
So keep peddling. Stay disciplined and put in the hard work necessary for building a legacy that lasts. It will change your life—and your future.
