Toaripi Language

Toaripi also called East Elema, is spoken in the Gulf Province of southern Papua New Guinea.

Bible Translation

The first selections of Scripture on Toaripi appeared in 1897. The Gospels were produced in 1902, published by the British and Foreign Bible Society (BFBS).

The first New Testament was produced in 1914, and revised in 1928, both by E. Pryce Jones of the London Missionary Society (LMS). The New Testament was called Testament Áre. 

Psalms

The Psalms were produced in 1960 and published with the New Testament. The Psalms were translated by H.A. Brown of the London Missionary Society, with the help of Marehari Raepa, Forova Hui and Samuela Koae. The first draft was made from the R.V. and then revised with the Hebrew and LXX.

Old Testament Portions

Genesis was produced in 1963, Exodus in 1965 and Job in 1968. These were translated by Herbert A. Brown of the London Missionary Society, assisted by Marehari Raepa, Forova Hui and several other pastors.

Bible

The Bible (Safu Buka) in Toaripi, was produced in 1983. It was completed by Herbert A. Brown of the London Missionary Society (LMS), assisted by Meara Laho, Forova Hui and F. Lalore.and others.

It was typeset and printed in Singapore by Richard Clay (S.E.Asia) Pte. Ltd. for the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea. It included a Glossary of difficult words called O Hea Ve Eite.

Digital Edition

The Toaripi New Testament was digitised for the Bible Society of Papua New Guinea with the help of MissionAssist in 2023.
