The Bette Contemporary Version, Kushia Unim, Igie Likpan, translates the scriptures in a meaningful way that is easy to read and understand. The translators wanted to bridge the cultural and historical distance between the Scriptures and the Bette audience. They wanted to focus on these three things: faithfulness to the source text, awareness of the context, and mindfulness of the needs of the Bette audience. The translators used the New International Version as the basis for exegetical decisions.
The target audience is native and second language Bette speakers wherever they may be found. The goal has been to use language that is easy to understand and generally accepted by all in the Bette Community. Igie Likpan will serve both devotional and church needs for Christians and outreach purposes for bringing this good news to non-Christians.
