WHEN THE TRIALS COME

Read today's scripture passages before answering the following questions.

Worry. We don’t want to do it, but we do it anyway. The question is not, “Do you worry?” The questions are, “Why do you worry? What do you worry about? What do you do with your worry?”

In Matthew 6:25-34, note the instructions Jesus gives to you. Jesus tells us not to be anxious about what we eat or drink or wear. Do you worry about these things?

The world we live in is filled with danger. Financial “worries” can be significant in an uncertain market. Many find themselves fighting off the fear that serious illness or great loss may bring. We experience loss in our own family, we see it in those we love, and we read about it in the newspaper. What does the Lord want us to do? How does He want us to respond? He tells us to not be anxious . . . for anything! We are to praise Him, to worship when we feel like worrying.

The Lord himself tells us that trials will come (John 16:33). And when they do come, we want to be ready for them and know what to do and how to respond in worship and not worry. As God’s children, we must choose to remember His faithfulness, anchor our trust in Him, and wait with hope and not worry. We need to fix our gaze on the precious deeds that display God’s love and faithfulness (1 Samuel 7:12). We need to meditate on Scriptures that describe God’s love, power, and faithfulness and choose to believe them. This simple thing will help to greatly curtain worrying.

What are you worried about? Make a mental list of your worries, even the smallest, seemingly inconsequential things. Maybe you could put your list in the notes on your phone. We are not designed to carry those burdens. In prayer, lay them down at the Lord’s feet. Then praise Him, praise Him, praise Him! Use Psalm 147 to express your thanks to the Lord and worship Him.
