Take Courageous Action

Esther, knowing that to approach the king without being summoned was punishable by death, put her life at risk. She had no idea what the outcome would be. After all, she hadn’t been summoned by the king for 30 days (Esther 4:11). He may have been harboring some discontent toward her. Why did she approach the king in spite of the risk? What gave her the courage? She realized it was the right thing to do for her people.

Conflicts that arise at work can point to deeper issues affecting the organization. Confronting those issues can be daunting on many levels. But not confronting them can be like ignoring a leak in a dam – over time the hole gets bigger until the whole dam bursts and destroys everything in the water’s path.

Like Esther, we often have no idea what we’ll have to contend with when we confront issues. But there are things we can do to build up our courage to take wise action.

Trust God: Once you’ve prayed and received clear direction and insight into the situation, trust that God will use the situation and turn it around for good (Romans 8:28).

Have faith: Deuteronomy 31:6 tells us “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

How you handle conflict matters. Let your faith be your guide to do what is pleasing in God’s eyes, no matter how challenging it may be. People are watching. They are looking for leaders who will do the right thing. When you handle conflict allowing God to lead you, you’ll have a positive influence on others at work to do the same.

“Even the most introverted individual will influence ten thousand other people during his or her lifetime.” (from Developing the Leader Within You by John Maxwell)

Prayer

Heavenly Father, increase my faith and help my unbelief. Give me the courage to take the action you are calling me to take. Help me to remember that you are always there for me and that you will never leave me nor forsake me. I want to be your faithful servant in my work so you can use me for your kingdom purposes. I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
