Like a shepherd, He tends His flock. He gathers the lambs in His arms carries them in his bosom, and gently guides nursing ewes. ―Isaiah 40:11

“Tending” something means watching over it. Tending involves both loving support and active care. When God tends His flock, He sees to our needs and works to benefit us. Philippians 1:6 assures us that God began a good work in us, and He will also complete it. He is a faithful Shepherd who is active in our lives to protect, provide for, and grow us. He stoops down to gather us in His arms and carries us when we can’t keep up. When life seems overwhelming or out of control, you can know that God is holding you close to His heart. He is still watching over you and caring for your needs. God is our perfect Shepherd, and He loves us beyond measure. He knows our weaknesses, and He also knows that sometimes the responsibilities we bear can weigh heavily. A nursing ewe can’t move as quickly as other sheep who don’t have little ones depending on them. Sometimes she might lag behind the main flock and risk losing her way. But the shepherd gently guides her to make sure she stays on the right path. How has God gently guided you through times of heavy burdens? How have you seen Him working in your life for your good?

While most of us understand that the Old Testament Scriptures were written primarily in the Hebrew language, very few of us can read or understand Hebrew. Therefore, we are forced to read the various English translations of the Bible. And, while there are many excellent translations out there, they often miss the nuances, insight, and deeper revelation found in the original Hebrew.
