Super Choices
If you’re anything like me, you watch all of these superhero movies with a twinge of envy. What could I do with super strength or lightning speed or the ability to read minds? The very appeal of these movies is the powers of these heroes and their ability to use them for good.
It is a perfect escape because most of us feel so helpless. So puny. So weak. So outmatched when it comes to the evils of this world and the problems in our lives. Superhero movies indulge us with the impossible fantasy—that we might be capable enough to combat evil.
One thing the movies get wrong is that evil is not something that needs to be punched into submission. War is neither the only or the most effective form of finding peace. We often perceive the world on a superficial level. And as such, we flock toward the need for physical power to shift the tide; it takes strength to fight against pain.
Most pain, however, is deeper than the surface. Evil is more serious than the superficial manifestations. And so is our power.
For each of us, our superpower is not in the physical realm. It is not as blunt as in the movies. But it is much greater. Our power lies in our ability to choose. It is our choices that change things. We confront evil through the courage of our decisions.
God’s word says, “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore, choose life, that you and your offspring may live.” We get to choose life. That’s the choice God wants us to choose. That’s the choice He has made available for us to choose. And consider that His Spirit resides in us. What movie superhero has the power of the Creator of the universe within them? We have the power, super powers, to make godly and wise choices in this life. But it is left to us whether to unleash those powers.
We dismiss the power of our choices because we have bought into the lie that we are not enough and need something else, something incredible, to strike a miracle into the world. The power God has given us to make these choices is the miracle. You are absolutely enough and have been given the power to choose every day. How are you going to use yours today?

Acknowledging what truly hurts is vitally important. The Apostle Peter worded it perfectly. He said trials would show that our faith is genuine. Our superpower is not in the physical realm. Our power lies in our ability to choose. God has so much in store for us. Riches untold. But it takes a little courage on our part to follow Him through and trust Him.
