DAY 3
Learn from the past.
I am so thankful for the man who yelled at me that day. Most of us don’t like to be corrected, but wisdom can shelter us from unneeded pain if we are teachable. At the time I was irritated by his unsolicited advice, but his strong voice stayed with me all these years and prevented me from crashing on a future day when the stakes were much higher.
I’ve often had to tell my kids, “I love you enough that I’m okay if you’re mad at me.” The Bible says it this way: “Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But deceitful are the kisses of an enemy” (Proverbs 27:6). Correction doesn’t feel good in the moment but it is necessary to mature. If we learn from our past, we can choose to flourish and grow or be stubborn and stall.
