Your questions aren’t a problem for God, they are a pathway for you to become a world-changer for God

-Louie Giglio, Passion 2019

You’ve probably heard the cautionary tale of “Doubting Thomas” – the guy who dared to air out his questions about Jesus and wound up being scolded by Jesus Himself. The guy who was told, “Blessed are those who don’t see, yet still believe” (John 20:29).

If we believe that version of the story we’d want to avoid being like Thomas, but we’d also probably want to avoid Jesus who seems overly critical of Thomas. It’s easy to cast God in the role of a perfectionist who expects nothing less than perfection from us. No wavering allowed – just get in line. To set the record straight on the story, Jesus didn’t come through the wall in the disciple’s hideout for the second time in order to scold Thomas’ skepticism, He came to invite and answer Thomas’ investigation. From that moment, Thomas’ life was a feverish pursuit to announce the truth about Jesus. God used His passion to ignite the hearts of people near and far to embrace the Gospel.

Thomas’ unbelievable encounter with a resurrected Jesus serves as an example that God welcomes questions and questioners. God is inviting us to poke and prod into the darkest corners of our doubts because He’ll meet us there, in the midst of our investigation. No level of archaeology will bury the truth Jesus wants us to see; it’ll only prove it even more clearly until ultimately our response echoes Thomas’, “My Lord and My God!” (John 20:28)

Does God seem distant today? Does He seem ancient or angry or uninvolved? Jesus is offering proof to you today that He’s near, He’s alive, and He’s proud of you. If the questions seem to keep piling up, like Thomas, ask Jesus to show you the holes and keep searching. Your questions aren’t a problem for God...they are a pathway for you to become a world-changer for God.
