Faith Encompasses!

Faith Inspires Boldness But Requires Humility. Jairus was a synagogue leader; he was part of the very sect that was openly ‘anti’ Jesus. But Jairus defied the convention and came to Jesus publicly. That must have required a lot of courage. When Nicodemus needed to see Jesus, he came at night. But Jairus came during the day time. Jairus came to the very man his colleagues were against to ask for help. That takes courage, huge courage. Jairus did not only step up courageously, Jairus also fell at the feet of Jesus courageously. His courage was rooted in humility and not arrogance. The humility that comes from admitting that you need help from the ‘opposition’.

Jairus fell at Jesus’ feet and did what he was told. Why is this important? Jairus got to Jesus first; it should be first come first serve, right? Then this bleeding woman shows up and not only interrupts but totally distracts Jesus. Now Jesus is focused on her and does not immediately follow Jairus to his house. But that is not all, this woman proceeds to tell Jesus the story of her life. Guess what? Jesus listened - patiently and compassionately. Imagine what Jairus was feeling. He must have been agitated. This Jairus was a synagogue leader with a dying daughter. But Jesus choose to attend to this no name woman first. Then imagine what went through Jairus’ mind when they told him not to bother the Master because his daughter had died. What! The lesson for us here is, the God we serve is not a respecter of any man. God pays attention to all His children - great and small alike. Jesus will pay attention to a Jairus and He will pay attention to a no name woman.

Mark 5:35 While he was still speaking to her, messengers arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. They told him, “Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”

Jesus did not prioritize the dying girl over the bleeding woman. Jesus went with the flow of how God sequenced things to happen. Jesus did not promise to hear her story at a later time because He had another emergency to attend to, after all she had been healed already. Jesus did not have to do that. When you go with God’s flow, even the most pressing things fall into place effortlessly! Jesus just went with the flow; you and I must learn to flow with God and not ruffle things. God has a time for everything in His plan – bleeding woman, dying girl, loving father!

In not prioritizing the dying girl over the bleeding woman, God was making a big statement to Jairus. “You are concerned about your little girl. I am also concerned about my little girl. This woman is Daddy’s little girl and I am going to take care of her and pay attention to her.” Profound! The God that we serve can love everyone, and everyone will feel special.

Have you felt like you have no one to plead your cause? God Himself will speak for you. Reaffirm your confidence in Him and His love for you.
