The Whole Story: A Life in God's Kingdom, Part Four

Family Devotional:

Leviticus 12 begins a section of the book that outlines the methodology of how Israel was to care for the sick, vulnerable, and impure. As we start this journey, let’s look to the Torah Portions for a quick description of what is to come. It reads as follows:
The name of the twenty-seventh reading from the Torah is Tazria (תזריע), which means "she conceived." The name is derived from the words of Leviticus 12:2, where the LORD says to Moses, "When a woman [conceives] and bears a male child ..." Leviticus 12 discusses the laws of purification after childbirth. Leviticus 13 introduces the laws for diagnosing and quarantining lepers. Except in biblical calendar leap years, Tazria is read together with the subsequent Torah portion, Metzorah, on the same Sabbath.

Daily Demonstration:

One of the positive outcomes of the methodology for women who give birth in Israel is that it would separate them from their daily work to care for their newborn child. In many ways, the law served as a way to ensure that all of God’s people were cared for – sick and well. How well are you caring for those around you? Are there methods you could put into practice to ensure the wellbeing of loved ones? Take an inventory of those closest to you and begin to put into motion the means to care for them.
