June 14—Spiritual Warfare

We are called to make disciples and encourage new believers in their faith through studying God’s Word, through prayer, and by learning to trust God in obedience in every part of their lives. As lives are changed and established in Christ, there is something else we need to think about.

We are in a battle. The war has already been won. Jesus has totally and overwhelmingly won the war! However, we are in what we could call the “mopping-up” stage. We are in between two important events: the time between Christ’s definitive victory on the cross and his triumphant return to earth. In this in-between stage (now encompassing nearly 2000 years), we are called to make disciples who in turn make disciples in the face of opposition from the world system and the one who runs the world system, Satan.

Let’s look at God’s Word and see what God has given us to use in this conflict and how we can encourage new believers to stand firm in their faith despite opposition.

Memorize

Read this week’s memory verse, 1 Peter 5:8. You’ll be working on memorizing this verse throughout the week. Today, simply read it and rest.
