“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,”
- Psalm 46:1-2a
Steady and sure
There’s something captivating about the way trees change depending on the season. Leaves turn an array of colors, a brilliant assortment of yellows and oranges; some trees produce fruit, while others are stripped bare. The seasons change, but the tree itself does not. Though externally things look different, the roots remain firmly planted. So with our life, the changing of seasons naturally happens. As our circumstances inevitably shift, our peace can remain firm.
Our God is steady, faithful, unwavering. He does not change as we or things around us do. Of the man who trusts in the Lord, Jeremiah 17 says, “He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit” (v. 8). A tree planted by water draws support from its roots, which have accessibility to the nutrients needed for the tree to grow and flourish. Similarly, as believers, we do not have to grow anxious as seasons change because of the One to whom we cling. Jesus, our faithful friend, does not abandon us in our struggle. He is our support, our security; in Him, we find the rest and nourishment our souls need.
Because of who God is, we remain firmly planted in seasons that feel overwhelming or daunting, for we rest in Him who is ever with us.
Ask and apply:
- What do you think it means to be “rooted”? How can we remain rooted in Christ?
- Because we know that God is unchanging, all of His qualities and the aspects of His character are unchanging. How does this affect the way that you approach God, even when you don’t “feel” like it?
- Take time to journal about circumstances in your life that you feel are constantly shifting or that feel uncertain. After journaling, approach God with your questions, fears, and doubts (just like we did on day 1).
- Now read Psalm 46. What are attributes of God that stand out to you? Write these down.
關於此計劃
As our seasons change, our God remains constant. Over four days, we want to examine how the Lord provides for His people at all times, regardless of the worries, disappointments, and missed expectations that come in this world.
