Pray & Connect: Praying the Psalms for Your Children預覽
Scripture: Read Psalm 46 for the full context of this passage.
“Stop striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations; I will be exalted among the earth.” Psalm 46:10
Have you ever found yourself trying to control the outcomes? Well, you’re not alone, especially when it comes to motherhood.
There was a season when nothing was going as I had hoped and planned. I remember coming to a place of surrender and telling my husband as I sobbed, “I can’t make anything better. Nothing I do is enough!” He looked at me with sympathetic eyes and in his most gentle voice he said, “No one asked you to make it better.”
He wasn’t trying to be mean, but it was the truth–it was not my job to transform hearts and fix everything. God used my husband that day to open my eyes to see this verse more clearly.
The command “cease striving” or “be still” comes from the Hebrew imperative that means to “release, let go.” The Psalmist starts off this passage with a reminder that God is our protector, strength, and our ever-present help in times of trouble. That is why we can let go!
What are you holding on to that’s not your place to control or carry? Does your child feel like they aren't enough? This passage reminds us that God can be trusted and He is enough! We can stop frantically running around trying to control the outcomes because He is God.
This doesn't mean that we are free of all responsibility. Instead, with open hands, we surrender and believe God is more than enough, loving enough, and powerful enough.
So I invite you to join me in this 10-day journey by casting your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7) Bring your children before the throne of grace and let God transform their hearts.
Use the prayer & connection prompts at the end of each day to lift your child up and connect with them. Fill their name in each prayer prompt and pray this verse with them or on your own.
Pray: Lord, Help me to remember that you are more than enough. You are loving enough and powerful enough to care for my children. I can rest in knowing You're sovereign and good. In the midst of everyday life, may {name of your child} be still and know that You are God. Amen
Connect: Ask your children, "Do you ever feel like you aren't doing enough in life?" Then remind them to lean into Christ when they feel like they are falling short. Christ has made them enough.
