"How Are You?” Part II

By Dr. Anita Phillips

What behaviors have you been condemning yourself for? You know, the behaviors where you’ve tried to do better, but it doesn’t quite work out the way you planned.

Today, as you take inventory of your mental health, I challenge you to quiet the condemnation and consider how the behavior you’re most ashamed of is usually connected to your brokenness. When we’re trying to fill a void in our lives, or we don’t trust that God will come through on His promise, that leads us to do things we’d rather not talk about.

God can’t heal what you continue to hide. Yes, He’s already aware of your behavior, but the moment you’re honest with Him about it, that’s when transformation can take place.

Let’s look at the woman caught in adultery. Not only did she have to grapple with her own behavior, but she was accused and condemned by people who had their own flaws. When her accusers brought her before Jesus, they suggested she be stoned for her sin, but Jesus saw it another way.

By the end of this story, no one is left to condemn her, not even Jesus. My prayer is that you know His heart of grace and compassion beats the same way for you.
