The spiritual gifts of evangelism and faith

The spiritual gift of evangelism is the empowered ability to share the gospel effectively and passionately.

As with all “paradigm” gifts, all Christians are called to live these principles out. God calls all of us to share our faith with others, but some are particularly equipped for it. When submitted to the Spirit, God and his good news become the focus and attention is taken off of the presenter. We all get to rejoice when people come to Jesus and weep when they do not. God can still use your presentation years later as he grows their harvest.

If you have this gift, remember that salvation remains in God’s hands, not yours. God elects and they follow him; you can’t impose it. This will simultaneously protect you from pride and unhealthy despair when they reject the message.

If you do not have this gift, remember that we are all called to evangelize (Matthew 28:19–20). If you struggle to share your faith, join someone else who evangelizes. You can share with friends and strangers one-on-one. Evangelism doesn’t usually mean presenting to large crowds.

Read about Philip “The Evangelist” in Acts 8.

The spiritual gift of faith means seeing God's plan and following it with a passion and commitment that inspires others to do the same.

All Christians have faith (trust) when they decide to follow Jesus. But for most, our level of conviction and trust fluctuates. Those with the gift of faith inspire others to trust Jesus more and more.

Remember that those with the gift of faith may still doubt at times, but those with this gift will continue in their faith. Steadfast trust in the midst of mental or emotional turmoil allows faith to shine all the brighter. Remember that God’s plan will prevail, and others will see your steadfastness. Equally, know that you can let down your guard to others.

For those without this gift, take note of the especially faithful Christians. When hardship, despair, and doubts arise in your life, ask them to pray with you. Keep in mind that they aren’t perfect either, so don’t idolize them in their seemingly endless, passionate trust of Christ.

John the Baptist exemplifies faith in John 3:28–30.
