Trust That God Is in Control.預覽
King of Kings
By Rev. Joel Gaertner
What comes to mind when you read the title of this devotion? Perhaps you started humming or singing the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah, which has King of Kings and Lord of Lords in it. If you’ve ever performed or heard the Hallelujah Chorus, then you know how powerful that part is in Handel’s masterpiece.
But have you ever stopped to ponder what exactly it means that Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords? At first glance, it might seem simple—Jesus is the greatest king over every other king in this world and He is the most powerful and important lord over every other lord in this world. Yes, that is what this means, but how well are you at applying this to your life?
How often do we look at things going on in our lives and the world and wonder Is God really in control? How easily the devil leads us to doubt that Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords!
- The devil used that question to get Adam and Eve to fall into sin in the Garden of Eden.
- The devil continues to use that same lie to cast doubt in our minds when we see tragedies, disasters, terrorist attacks, wars, crimes, diseases, natural disasters, and other evils that affect our world.
Singing or hearing King of Kings and Lord of Lords as part of the Hallelujah Chorus is a joyous and happy experience. When we have times in our lives that are anything but joyous and happy, remember Jesus is still the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Jesus understands us through this life and one day will bring us to reign with Him in heaven where we will be the King of Kings and Lord of Lords with him for all eternity. Let that assurance reassure you when you have a hard time seeing or understanding that Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Prayer: Dearest Jesus, over and over in the Bible, I am assured that you are the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Forgive me for the times I lose sight of that reassuring fact. Help me rely on your almighty power and love that continues to be so powerfully at work in my life and the world around me. You continue to truly be the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Thank you for your powerful presence in my life and in this world! Amen.
