Healthy Parent = Healthy Child

Before we get into the seven Biblical focuses of parenting, it’s important to be reminded that one of the primary ways you raise a healthy child is by being a healthy adult—not a perfect parent, but a healthy one, one that is applying and growing in the Biblical principles being taught in this book. So, before you start teaching or changing how you lead your child, first ask and consider how you can apply that principle to your own life. I cannot expect my child to “do as I say, not as I do.” That just doesn’t work.

Our kids will replicate our attitudes and actions whether we like it or not.

Don’t allow this reality to get you discouraged or stuck in shame. But, let this be an encouragement to do the work of dealing with our issues so that we can pass along to our children Biblical principles as best as we can. Also, often as adults, we’re living out the pain of our own childhood. Don’t be embarrassed, but whatever your past is, take the time to get healing, deliverance, or whatever is needed to heal. Your kids will have their own giants they will have to face; make sure you take care of yours so that they don’t have to deal with them both.

The more you overcome your family history the more you can change your family legacy

The good news is that when you begin to live a life worth following, you’ll see their world begin to shift even without you saying anything. Why? Because you’ll be modeling something different. Show them how to live out the Bible as you are teaching them about the Bible. Kids are molded by your modeling.
