Catechism: Loving Creator & Sustainer

3天中的第2天

Baby animals are perhaps the most adorable creatures in the world. Cute kittens, pouncing puppies, and curious bear cubs are enchanting and delightful! But these lovable babies require continued care, food, love, and attention. It’s not enough for their parents to give birth to them, They also have to provide for the needs of their offspring.

It’s the same between God and his Creation. He didn’t create us and then abandon us. He created life with needs and promises to provide for those needs and not just rain for the plants or fruit for the birds. He cares for all of his creation—especially us. We need material things like water, food, and clothes. But we also need love, purpose, and grace; he provides all those to us as well!

Jesus’ most famous sermon, the Sermon on the Mount, taught us about this part of God. Why don’t the birds worry about food, storing it away in case it runs out? Because God didn’t just create the birds; he also sustains them. The flowers don’t worry; they don’t work or make their clothing . . . their creator clothes them in amazing and beautiful ways!

Jesus declared that we matter even more to God than birds or flowers. God loves you! If God takes care of birds and flowers, meeting their needs and sustaining them, how much more will he take care of and sustain you?

Consider: If Jesus proclaims that you are valuable to God, do you believe him? Will you choose to trust that truth today?

Reflect: Look out the window or go outside. Take a moment to notice how God takes care of his creation. Then thank him for two or three ways he takes care of you and provides for your needs.
