God could never forgive what I have done

This issue usually occurs when a Christian is looking at one specific sin in their past. It becomes a mountain in their mind that they cannot get around.

I have previously made the point that Christ came to take away all of your sins (John 1:29, 1 John 3:5). But still, some Christians hold onto the guilt and fear that their particular sin is too great, too evil, or too heinous for God to forgive them.

God has forgotten your sins and does not even remember what they were. Go back and read that again!

When you come to Christ, God wiped your slate clean by the sacrifice of His Son. This is the first thing to remember.

Furthermore, there is no condemnation for those who are in Jesus Christ. God does not condemn us for our past, so why should we? I have already covered these matters earlier. So, let’s look at some examples from the Bible that prove this point.

There were some in Ephesus who came to Christ that had previously practiced black magic (Acts 19:18-20). They were mediums or wizards, and under the laws of Moses, such people were put to death (Leviticus 20:27). Such people did not just sin, they stood in direct opposition to God.

But when they came to Christ, they burned their books of magic, and they were accepted by God.

Consider also the church of the Corinthians. Paul writes to them saying this:

9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11 ESV)

Not all of these different sinners that Paul lists. Some of these were also punishable by death under the law of Moses, and sinners such as these will not enter the kingdom of God. More could be added if we thought about it: murderers, pedophiles, rapists, etc.

But also notice the words of verse 11, “And such were some of you…” Some of those who came to Christ in Corinth did these very same things. They practiced these evils before coming to Christ.

And they were all forgiven!

As verse 11 continues, “…you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Call to Action:

Whatever you think you have done, is it worse than any of these things? I doubt it, and even if it is, when you come to Christ, you, too, are washed, sanctified, justified, and cleansed by the sacrifice of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

So You Think You're Not Good Enough?

Have you ever thought, “I’m not good enough?” What about any of these other thoughts? I’m not worthy of being a Christian. Other people are better Christians than I am. I’m the worst sinner ever. God could never forgive what I have done. God isn’t listening to my prayers. These are attacks of the devil. This plan will show how to defeat them all and more.
