Lesson 4: The Wise Men

Jesus came for all people, including people from all over the world.

Sing: We Three Kings

We three kings of Orient are;
bearing gifts we traverse afar,
field and fountain, moor and mountain,
following yonder star.

Refrain:
O star of wonder, star of light,
star with royal beauty bright,
westward leading, still proceeding,
guide us to thy perfect light.

Read: Matthew 2:1-2, 9-11

Do you know anyone who lives far away from you? How far away do they live?

The wise men lived a long, long way away from Jesus. We know that because the Bible says that Jesus was a child, not a baby, when they arrived.

When Jesus was born, God placed a new star in the sky. The wise men saw it, and they knew that something important was happening. They believed that a new king had been born—a king so important that the stars changed. They lived in a different country, but they wanted to honor this new king. They even brought fancy and expensive gifts for him.

We don't know very much about the wise men, but there is one really important thing that they tell us. Jesus was born for all people.

Today, Christians live in every country of the world. They speak so many different languages. But we all serve the same God, and Jesus came for all of us.

Pray: God, thank you for sending Jesus to all the people of this world, even people who live a long way away from me.
