Character Calling: Connected

3天中的第1天

TOGETHER WITH A PURPOSE. Although you’re a unique individual, you’re also connected to others in your community. Maybe you’re in a school, on a team, in a family or church community, but regardless of where you live, you’re connected!

Loving our neighbor as ourselves is not just part of being a “good person;” it’s vital to being a person of Christ-like character. Often, Scripture tells us both what to do and what not to do in our relationships. In a previous part of this 4-week series, we explored how disrespect, hatred, and unfaithfulness were the antithesis of loving others.

As we will see in this week’s reading plan, the last 3 of the 10 commandments directly address actions that can sabotage our connections with others. When we steal, lie, and covet, we’re acting contrary to what we are called to do - love our neighbor as ourselves and love our enemies.

And if stealing, lying, and coveting are the opposites of loving others, then generosity, truth, and contentment must be part of a Christ-like character! When we pursue that kind of love, we bless others (and ourselves) in ways that strengthen our human connections and glorify God.

As image-bearers of God, our greatest purpose is to reflect him by our choices and actions. You’re an extension of Jesus’ love to others, and as you walk in his ways, the impact you’ll have upon your neighbors will break down their walls and help them to see God.

Consider: Have you ever stopped to consider how many people you’re connected to? Your life matters and has influence. Your love can impact others in powerful ways. Take a moment to reflect and ask the Lord to help you grow in his love today.
