NIV Once-A-Day Bible for Women預覽
Genesis 20:6–7
God promised Abraham that he was going to be a father of a great nation (see Genesis 12:1–3). At this point in his life, Abraham knew that his many descendants would come through Sarah (see Genesis 18:10). He should have been willing to protect her and her purity—or at least put up a good fight. But instead he lied to Abimelek about Sarah being not his wife but his sister, and she went along with his lie. Both lies led Abimelek to believe that Sarah was an unclaimed woman. And both lies put God’s promise at risk.
Although neither Abraham nor Sarah protected the promise, God certainly did. If Sarah had remained in Abimelek’s harem, the promise would have been tainted, if not absolutely ruined. Yet God protected Sarah’s purity—he made sure that Abimelek did not touch her. What God promises, he sees through to the end. He is the ultimate promise protector.
