Names of God for the Worship Leader預覽
Jehovah Nissi
The Lord is my Banner.
Speaking about God as a Banner might feel odd because it isn't a common word we use to describe a person. Your first thought about a banner is likely a sign or advertisement. And it might feel weird to call God a sign.
But consider the purpose of a banner in the text where Moses builds an altar and calls out to Jehovah Nissi. In the Bible days, armies would put up a banner as a sign. Imagine something similar to a flag. It represented their identity. It could also symbolize a celebration of victory. After winning a battle, they would erect a banner to signify the win.
In the text, Moses is doing just that. And he attributes the win to Jehovah Nissi, the Lord our banner. In Genesis 17:15, Moses declares that God is our banner. Hands were lifted up against the throne of the Lord. But God fought the battle, won it, and will continue to win for generation after generation.
Thank you, Jehovah Nissi, for being a God who will fight and win for us. Thank you for being a God who brings us together through victory. Thank you for allowing us to find identify in you.
Don't be afraid to call out to Jehovah Nissi during corporate worship as a way to bring your entire congregation together focused on our victory and identity in Christ Jesus.
