Memorization Challenge:1 Corinthians 13:11-13

When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Reading Primer:

The Psalmist David sings a song of praise to God at the temple's dedication in this Psalm. He starts by praising God for healing, restoring his life, and protecting him from enemies.

In the middle of the Psalm, David highlights his praise to God amid hardship

“For his anger is but for a moment, but his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes in the morning.”

David continues describing his success with self-confidence,

As for me, I said in my prosperity, I shall never be moved.” “By your favor, O Lord you made my mountain stand strong; you hid your face; I was dismayed.”

In David’s prosperity, he became self-reliant and trusted in himself. But when God hid his face (withdrew his protection and blessings), David realized everything was from God.

David’s response was humble and desperate, crying out to God for help,

“To you, O Lord, I cry, and to the Lord I plead for mercy.” “Hear of Lord and be merciful to me! O Lord, be my helper!”

God’s response is quick and faithful to hear David’s cry.

“You have turned for me my mourning into dancing.”

“Oh, Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!”

What prayers of praise and gratitude can you give God today?

Reading With the People of God - #6 LOVE

This is the sixth part of a reading plan through the Bible, following the lectionary pattern of reading in the Psalms, Old Testament, and New Testament each day. In addition, each day this month will feature a memorization challenge for 1 Corinthians 13 (The Love Chapter), and there will be brief devotionals from different people in our Church scattered throughout the plan.
