Love God Greatly-Fear & Anxiety

READ: Luke 8:22-25, Mark 4:40

SOAP: Luke 8:25

Fear can be defined as the undesirable emotion that is caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous. Anxiety is the body’s reaction to a perceived threat. Unfortunately, we all experience both fear and anxiety because we are only human.

There are numerous examples in Scripture of people struggling with fear: Abraham and Sarah, Moses, David, Jonah, Esther…just to name a few. Even the disciples struggled with fear, while Jesus was with them!

In Luke 8, we see the how fear shows the disciples’ lack of faith. Several of the disciples were seafarers, yet when a great storm arose on the lake, fear overwhelmed Jesus’ followers. While Jesus slept soundly through the storm, the disciples woke Him in a panic. They called Jesus Master, yet could not surrender their fate into His hands. Jesus proved His authority over the wind and the waves by quieting the storm.

Looking at your life today, where is your faith? Are you resting in Christ, knowing that He has authority over your life or are you struggling to tread water? Jesus desires for us to place our fears at the foot of the cross so we can walk in confidence and peace.

Father God, thank You that I can rest secure in You. I praise You for Your authority over my life. I pray that You will help me see Your power more clearly. Forgive me for the times when I am weak in my faith. Help my unbelief. May I focus on who You are in troubling times. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
